🏁Today's goal Fix auto updating with sparkle using the 2.0 branch

6:00 PM Devmate is officially gone. Thank goodness. It had some weird tracking code and everything was really opaque for me. The docs only seem decent if you've released 100 mac apps, and I haven't. I've released one.

I finally downloaded, compiled and am using the 2.0 branch of sparkle which is supposed to work with apple's notarization stuff and hardened runtimes. So 🀞

First test unsuccessful. Forgot to re-sign with the DSA key apparently? This is why people write web apps not mac apps. Horrible.

6:20 PM What's funny is that it's not even sparkle's fault. It's mostly apple's fault. The app store is a very smooth process, but of course they want to make it super hard to distribute outside of the app store. The crazy part is mac devs probably make quite a few more sales outside of the store than in it. Thanks to the use of paypal instead of a credit card.

Never underestimate the power of paypal when you're trying to sell something online. You heard it here last.

I yearn for simpler times before the mac app store and hardened runtimes and gatekeepers.

That's why I've been listening to simple on repeat

I'm going to do another test of the updater later on...
